Fidel Castro is dead

Former Cuba President Fidel Castrol is dead after a long absence in public limelight following his poor health.

He is known to the western world as a dictator after a long relationship with his socialist ideologies. The ill relationship with the west was triggered by the overthrow of US backed Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista by Communist leader Fidel Castro in 1959.

He ruled Cuba with iron fist often crushing down on any voice that criticized his regime.

He held a good relationship with Moscow during the cold war era.

He is known as a dictator who never advocated for democracy and social freedom in Cuba.

Africa reaction to Fidel Castro Death

Fidel Castro is often regarded as a hero in some African countries where his support for arm struggle help bring independence in some of these African countries including Mozambique with Frelimo movement and in South Africa during Apartheid regime.

He was a respected leader in South Africa following his anti-Apartheid support and was warmly welcomed in South Africa in 1998, embraced by former leader, the late Nelson Mandela.

He actively supported arms struggle towards Mozambique in fighting for her independence.

Challenges to his Leadership

There are many claims that he survived numerous assassination attempts. Fidel Castro dies at the age of 90. He is survived by 9 children and 12 siblings with Raul Castro taking over as Cuban leader.

As the world mourn the passing of Fidel Castro, he is still known for his controversy when in 1973, he said that he will talk to United States, one of the greatest rivals to his dictatorship saying that he will talk to United States of America when it has a black president and the world has a Latin American pope

Pope Francis met with Fidel Castro during a tour of Cuba with Popes visit in September 2015.. The pontiff arrived on the island nation to spend three days visiting Havana, Holguin and Santiago.

Cubas President Raul Castro hosted US President Barack Obama following his ambitious effort to restore normal relations between their countries. President Obama made the visit in March 2016.
